Priorities & Working Groups

Informed by data collected from Vermont law enforcement and state agencies, as well from leading federal sources like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Federal Highway Administration, we prioritize our highway safety initiatives into three areas of emphasis.


Critical Emphasis Areas

The CEAs selected for the 2017-2021 SHSP are:

  11. Improve Younger Driver Safety (Under 25)

  • Reduce Medium And Heavy Vehicle Crashes
  • Improve Work Zone Safety

Engineering & Infrastructure

Approaches a safety problem from the roadway and vehicle perspectives, and includes professionals in highway design, traffic, maintenance, operations, and planning.
