Our Partners

Our partners are individuals, and representatives of private and public organizations who are concerned with the safety of all Vermont road users. We work together, volunteering our expertise and resources to create, implement, and manage initiatives that reduce crashes on Vermont highways.

A forest highway in Vermont

Operation Lifesaver of Vermont (OLVT) is a non-profit public safety education and awareness organization dedicated to reducing collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail crossings and trespassing on or near railroad tracks. OL promotes rail safety through public awareness campaigns and education initiatives, including free safety presentations by authorized volunteers.

In the summer of 2022 OLVT is highlighting the need for increased vigilance at road crossings and trespassers on active rail lines as Amtrak extends long-awaited service from Rutland (its previous terminus) to Burlington. Contact Vermont’s coordinator for more information.

Partner Spotlight: Operation Lifesaver

OL speaks to school groups, driver education classes, community audiences, professional drivers, law enforcement officers, emergency responders, and others. Our program is co-sponsored by the Vermont Agency of Transportation, railroads (both passenger and freight), and other entities. Together they promote the three E's—education, enforcement and engineering—to keep people safe around the tracks and railway crossings within our communities. Operation Lifesaver of Vermont is part of a national nonprofit program known as Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI).
